INTRODUCTION

uparr.jpg (927 bytes)

It has been a long-felt necessity of Chemical & Pharmaceutical industries for such a coating compound that can offer a promising protection to their plant floorings against intense corrosion & etchings caused by various acids, alkalies and such other corrosive chemicals of Organic & Inorganic origin. To meet this crucial demand of Chemical industries, floor_grip_2.jpg (6419 bytes)we have developed a unique Co-polymer plastic-based floor-coating compound that can combat this menace which virtually eats away the beautiful floorings of stone concrete. The capability of the coating of this compound to withstand against the drastic effects of several highly corrosive chemicals has been exhaustively tested and confirmed by our Laboratory.

PROPERTIES & FEATURES:

uparr.jpg (927 bytes)

1.

It is a SINGLE-PACK, ready to use, viscous glistening liquid which does not require the addition of a Hardener/Catalyst at the time of use, as it is necessary in the case of Epoxy & Polyurethane classes of Compounds.

2.

On application, the components of this Compound penetrate into the porous floor surface of concrete or stone through absorption and form plastic-tentacles within the finest pores which offer an extra strength to the resultant coating to adhere with the floor surface. Yet, this compound also takes a strong bonding with smooth and non-porous surfaces, such as of glazed tiles, polished stones & metals.

3.

The most conspicuous feature of this Compound is that, owing to the excellent solvation property of its Base, the old coating softens at the time of next application and completely merges with the new coating to produce a single consolidated coating. This means, at the time of next application, do not remove the well-stuck part of the old coating. Simply clean up the worn-out patches, if any, on the old coating and apply a uniform fresh coating. This makes substantial savings in the cost of future repeat applications.

4.

On drying & curing, the components of this compound set into a stiff and impermeable Co-polymer plastic laminate.

5.

This compound is Hydrophobic in character and hence, it must be applied over completely dry surface.

6.

The coating dries up and becomes tack-free within about Six hours of application and undergoes complete hard-drying during about a week.

7.

The coating very well stands to the corrosive effects of 98% Sulfuric Acid, 30-32% Hydrochloric Acid, 15-20% Nitric Acid, various Organic Acids, strong Soda Ash solutions and weak Caustic solutions.

8.

The coating is fire-retardant and has a heat tolerance temperature of about 130-140 degC.

9.

The coating prevents the growth of fungus, moss, algae and other vegetative as well as bacterial life.

10.

COVERAGE : One litre of the compound gives Two coatings over about 35-40 Sq.Ft. area, depending upon the extent of roughage of the surface.

11.

COAT-THICKNESS : Thickness of Two Coatings is about 4 to 5 Mils
(1 Mil = 0.025mm. = 25 Microns).

12.

This Coating Compound is offered in Grey-Matt and Colourless-Gloss finishes.

METHOD OF APPLICATION

uparr.jpg (927 bytes)

Thoroughly clean the floor surface. Clean the stains of oils or grease, if any, with petrol or kerosene. Make sure that the cleaned surface is completely dry before application. floor3.jpg (11827 bytes)Shake the compound in the container very well to make it uniform. Apply the material on the surface with nylon brushes used for painting to produce a uniform

floor_grip_1.jpg (5763 bytes)and even coating on the entire surface. Allow this first coat to dry for atleast 24 hours. Finally, give a second coating over this in a similar way. Do not unduly rub the brush repeatedly over the same spot. This leads to the formation of plastic fibers on the brush which disturb the coating with the pulling effect caused. This is a peculiar property of this Co-polymer compound which has a tendency to quick polymerisation. The coated surface becomes tack-free within about 6 hours and undergoes complete hard-drying during about a week.

NOTES
(i) At the end of application, quickly wash out the used brushes with our Thinner or Xylene.
(ii) If the material becomes thick due to solvent-loss through improper capping of the containers, thin it as necessary by adding our Thinner or Xylene. Never use Turpentine, Kerosene or any other Oils for thinning, else it will completely spoil the material. Our special Thinner will be supplied to the Users as per their need.

CAUTION !!!
While making an application of this solvent-based Compound in non-ventilated or poorly ventilated conditions, arrange a powerful Exhaust fan to evacuate the solvent vapours for protecting the Workmen from suffocation. Avoid flames and smoking to save from fire or explosion while working under such closed conditions.

TESTING DONE BY : DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING
                              (UNIVERSITY OF ROORKEE)

This laboratory has thoroughly tested the above mentioned Water-proofing Compound sample and the relevant tests alongwith our findings are reported as under

TEST FINDINGS

1. Physical appearance

A uniform viscous slurry in gray colour

2. Nature of bonding with all classes of flooring stones and tiled surfaces

A very strong bond is produced. The stiff plastic laminate has absolutely no tendency to cracking and descaling on prolonged usage of the coated floor surfaces.

3. Resistance to abrasion and staining

The plastic laminate is found to be sufficiently resistant to abrasion and scratching under the standard anti-scratch test. It also resists staining by various chemicals and is washable with water.

4. D. F. T. produced by two coatings on the surface

About 125-135 Microns

5. Chemical resistance of the plastic laminate

(i) 20 % Hydrochloric Acid

No effect for over 72 hours of continued contact test.

(ii) 10 % Nitric Acid :

No effect for over 72 hours of continued contact test.

(iii) 20 % Sulphuric Acid

No effect for over 72 hours of continued contact test.

(iv) Acetic Acid, glacial

No effect for over 72 hours of continued contact test.

(v) 10 % Caustic Soda

No effect for over 72 hours of continued contact test.

(vi) Exposure to gases like Cl2 SO2, SO3, NO2, H2S & NH3

No effect for over 72 hours of continued contact test.

6. Remarks

The material is ideally suitable as a floor-coating Compound to protect floor surfaces against the effects of various chemicals and gases.
